QUARK ZYDECO'S QUANTUM HOP
by Jarmo

My daughter Bessie said to me,
"Paw, what's the weeniest thang there be?"
So I looked her straight'n'er shinin' eyes:
'Said, "Honey, ain't just a matter o' size,"
And I put my arms around her neck 'n' grabbed'er string o' jewels;
Said: "This 'n' ev'thang else you see is made o' molecules,"

'They're built from itty bits called atoms,"
"That bond 'emselves in complex patterns,"
"To make the stuff that we call matter,"
"Like butane, beer and buckwheat batter."

And Bessie blinked those baby blues,
Said, "But Paw, how d'those atoms fuse?"
"And how'd they know how to arrange?"
"'Don'tcha find that mighty strange?"
So I spat into a can and said, "I surely do my dearie,"
"But I's been on the Net, and boned me up on quantum theory,"

"Par-tickles smaller than an atom,"
"Don't exist til you look at 'em,"
"They're just vibratin' energy,"
"And waves of probability."

"In other words, I think you'll find,"
"Reality's a state o' mind,"
"And if you need some proof o' that,"
"Go'n'Google for Schro-dinger's cat."
"Oh Daddy," Bessie said, "that quannum theory must be wrawng!"
I said, "Try tellin' that to victims of the new-cleer bomb!"

"Ain't just a bunch o' dang equations,"
"There's explosive implications:"
"Either we're our own mind's eye,"
"Or universes mul-tee-ply!"

"And John Bell's inequality,"
"Might mean there's magic and ESP."
But Bessie looked a mite perplexed;
I said, "Now, darlin', don't get vexed,"
"The subatomic realm extends beyond our time and space,"
"So ther'ain't no point in worrying your perdy li'l face."

"All that we can know for sure,"
"Is we know a lot less 'n we thought before"
"Now ev'one's free to make their own mind,"
"And 's business as usual - blind leadin' th' blind!"
